Uechi-ryu is one of the four traditional styles of Okinawan karate. Among the four styles, Uechi ryu is considered to remain the closest to the Chinese roots of martial arts. The Kenyukai school was founded by Kiyohide Shinjo (10. dan) in 1981 and today it is one of the dominant schools of this style. Sensei Shinjo has been nicknamed "Okinawa Superman" for his unprecedented wins at the all-Okinawa karate championships. 

The Prague branch of Kenyukai is led by Tomáš Pluskal (6. dan) who spent ten years in Okinawa (2005 - 2015) and studied Uechi-ryu karate under the direct mentorship of sensei Kiyohide Shinjo.
